·         In producing the Project Proposal, and in preparing for the Project Realisation, you should familiarise yourself with Unit 6 & 55 of the qualification.
·         In particular you should understand the Assessment and Grading Criteria, which will be used to determine standards of achievement.
·         Unit 6 requires that you produce a project proposal of about 500 words, excluding the project plan and bibliography. Project Proposals should not be so succinct that they do not address the requirements listed below nor should they be excessively long and unfocussed.

Section 1: A review of progress and achievement through parts 1 and 2 of the course

Before I began stage one and two of the course, in my mind I was set on focusing on textiles, however, the visual communication rotation caused me to change my mind. I found that I did enjoy all six of the rotations, each of them had different aspects that I was interested in, but I had to make a decision.  The reason I eventually chose visual communication was due to the versatility that the subject holds and that I could have a lot of freedom within what I want to do with my work.  I feel I have learnt a lot throughout stages one and two, I have learnt many new skills that I can re-use while completing my final major project. The last two stages have helped me think about what I am going to focus on for my final major project, and looking back I think I have enjoyed a lot of the drawing and printing tasks the most, so this is a starting point for me.

Section 2: Project concept

My final major project will explore my fascination with pregnancy. The project will be inspiring because I will be experimenting with many different techniques and processes as well as bringing my own preferences and interests into it. I have decided to focus on pregnancy because of how I have always found it very intriguing. To start the project off I want to look at the stages of the pregnancy, looking at the development of the baby and what changes occur to the figure of the mother. I will be experimenting expressing my own interpretations through printing, drawings and paintings. After I have completed this and evaluated what I have found I will move onto other aspects of the pregnancy and other issues that occur such as pregnancies when the mother is extremely thin and teenage pregnancies. I will be comparing different types of pregnancy, with ideas coming from age, health and other aspects. Throughout the whole project I will be experimenting with different medias until I find the most successful method to use to create my final piece.

Section 3: Evaluation

In my final evaluation I will look back through the project and point out the successful and unsuccessful parts of it and give the reasons why. I will identify and give reasons for any changes that occur. I will solve any problems that I have and also evaluate my artist research. I will give my own opinion on how I felt the project went as a whole and what I would do to improve the project if I was to do it again. Not only will I be doing a final evaluation, I will also be doing many summaries throughout the project to summarise how I feel the project is developing and to introduce what I will be doing next. As I intend to do a blog instead of a journal for my final major project, this will be where I will complete my summaries that will occur every time I feel I have taken a step forward within my project and also my final evaluation.

APPENDIX 2: Project action plan and timetable

Week 1
14.02.11
Research of 3 artists, designers or photographers, each being a separate post on my blog. Each one will be looking at a different technique of visually recording simply the idea of pregnancy and the physical changes or the development.
Week 2
21.02.11
I will be continuing on with this research and I will be developing my own opinion on the works and start to show my own interpretation of what I found. I will start to produce a series of images representing the changes of the body.
Week 3
28.02.11
I will continue with producing my series of images. I will then look more into figure and form, continuing my research and produce another post on my blog. I will do a summary of the first three weeks of my project.
Week 4
07.03.11
I will look at the ‘Pregnancy Henna tattoos’, looking at the intricate designs. I will produce some images specifically showing the lines and curves that appear over the 9 months of pregnancy, adding some of the design ideas from the Henna tattoos, creating some prints and drawings.
Week 5
14.03.11
I will look at the issues of teenage pregnancy and compare the ways in which a young mother’s body changes in comparison to an older mother. I will produce some paintings comparing the effects of both bodies. I will summarise the project on how it is going so far and i will post this on my blog.
Week 6
21.03.11
I will watch the documentary ‘The Truth about Super Skinny Pregnancies’ and look at issues for women with very ‘slim figures’. I will find out more about the advantages and disadvantages of being very slim during pregnancy.
